What happened at the G20 summit?

Held in Delhi and hosted by India's G20 presidency, the two-day meeting was held at the Pragati Maidan at a time of growing political and economic rivalry in which the world's leading and emerging economies are forming new alliances around the world.

                                 


The important takeaways from the G-20 Summit 

• The main motto of this 18th meeting was VASUDHAIVA KUTUMBAKAM “ONE COUNTRY, ONE FAMILY, ONE FUTURE”. The theme confirms the value of humans, animals, plants and microorganisms and their interconnectedness on planet Earth and in the wider universe.

• Participants: G20 members of countries invited by the Government of India.

• Venue: International Exhibition Bharat Mandapam - with convention center.

• Date – September 9, 2023 – September 10, 16, 2023

• Works to address major issues related to the global economy, such as international financial stability, climate change mitigation and sustainable development.

• It was the first G20 summit held in India.

                                        


The G20 has expanded to include topics in economics and finance, including climate change, sustainable energy, debt relief and multinational taxation.

Discussions revolved around:-

1. Increasing loans to developing countries from multilateral institutions.

2. Reform of international debt structures.

3. Regulation of cryptocurrencies.

4. Addressing the impact of geopolitical uncertainties on food and energy security.


India's specific focus areas also included:-

Green Development, Climate Finance and Livelihood: India is committed to addressing climate change with a focus on climate finance, technology and just energy transitions in developing countries. There will also be an introduction to the Life movement, which is in line with India's sustainable traditions to promote environmentally friendly practices.
